Matthew Fiedler Interesting article. I would disagree on the section regarding vertical axis holes. Their argument that the compression of each layer is what causes the ID of a hole to be smaller would necessarily mean that all dimension of a printed part would similarly be distorted. This is not the case.
The actual extrusion width (including the layer compression) will be accounted for in the slicing software, The reasons for the vertical axis hole ID are printed smaller than the 3D model's intended size are two fold and can be seen here:
