Jan 2017 Puzzler
Fulfilling Open Gigabot, launching Gigabot 3+, and the XLT has consumed all of our bandwidth, but now that the dust has settled we're eager to resume the monthly Puzzler!
This month's Puzzler comes from an oversight I made this weekend while printing some designs for a local FIRST robotics team. While the design loaded and appeared to be watertight:
When I sliced it in Simplify3D and hit prepare to print the file disappeared:
What happened??

The slicer is still processing the model. Give it a few more minutes to finish processing the Gcode and it will reappear.

the model probably had very thin walls, thinner than the nozzle or the current settings so the slicer didn't fill the preview. that is why it disappeared

and btw how can I get the GB modelfor my simplyfy3d?

@C.J. - Great guess, however after an hour, the file still didn't resolve:(
@Carlos- Thanks for posting your solution re: thin walls. While what you proposed would also result in the same outcome if all the walls were too thin, the culprit this time was due to another error.

Another possibility is the model isn't solid. Sometimes models that are not solid will render BUT only at certain angles so of you move the table a bit the model will appear and disappear.

@samantha the first picture shows that you don't have any process created for the part. was it deleted?

@samantha is the second picture accurate( show 0 hours, 0 material, etc)? if it is not then maybe the preview "start" slider was either all the way to the right or the "end" slider all the was to the left by the "start" slider

@ ok last 2 shots. maybe is the model faces that got corrupted or imported bad. if not that, maybe the layer modification is set print from 0 to 0 or some low value that is the only was I could get to replicate your second pic with a good model

Start printing setting is set higher than the actual model height.0 -
so, in the process you somehow set the top, bottom solid layer and perimeter shell to 0, no raft and no support

As evidenced in the picture I took after calling Matthew in Houston to troubleshoot, I had accidentally checked the box to start printing at height 450mm. As a result, after preparing to print, my file seemed to disappear! Please email info@re3d.org to claim your discount code! Big thanks to you, C.J & Carlos for your sleuthing!
Also, if you are curious...after correcting the mistake, the FIRST robotics print is doing great and should be complete in 35 hrs!
