Overview:
Before proceeding, it’s important to understand that the GB3+ dual extruder wiring harness includes three different groups of fans, each with a specific purpose. These fans perform different functions and are wired accordingly:
Print head housing fan:
This fan cools the extruder motors and helps prevent them from overheating during operation.Heat sink fans:
These fans cool the hot end heat sinks, which is necessary for proper filament extrusion and to prevent heat creep.Outrigger fans:
These fans cool the filament as it is deposited. They are not required for every material or print, but are used when additional part cooling is needed to achieve certain print qualities.
In the wiring harness, each heat sink fan is paired with an outrigger fan, while the print head housing fan is a single, standalone connection, as shown below.
More importantly, in each pair of hot end fans, the outrigger fans are distinguished by a white paint dot on the sticker:
Installation instructions:
- If you are replacing the existing set of fans, first use a 2.5mm Allen wrench to unscrew the screws and remove the old fans.
- Using a 2.5mm Allen wrench, screw in M3x14 socket head cap screws through the fans and into the mounts.
Important: Correct fan orientation is critical for proper cooling. The heat sink fan must be installed on the side of the fan mount that has four screw holes, which is the side opposite the retaining clip. The outrigger fan is mounted using two screws and is positioned perpendicular to the heat sink fan. During installation, make sure the fan stickers are facing down toward the fan mount. This is shown below:

Stickers on the inside of the mount:

Wires coming from corners of fans are closest to each other, and the fan wire lays along the top length of the fan mount
-
-
Screwing in the screws incrementally before they are all tight in order for all of the screws to align with the holes. Warning: Do not over-tighten or you will risk stripping the polycarbonate threads!
- Repeat this process for the other fan mount.

Once the fans are installed, you are ready to place them on your Gigabot
