Removing the extruder should not be the first troubleshooting step. In most cases, issues can be identified and resolved without disassembly. However, if troubleshooting indicates that extruder removal is necessary on a Gigabot X (GBX) or Terabot X (TBX), follow the instructions below.
To remove the extruder, locate the two (2) M5 × 16 socket head cap screws (SHCS) on the back side of the extruder. Using a 4 mm Allen wrench, remove both screws.
Removing these screws will disengage the belt drive, allowing the extruder to be removed safely.
Next, disconnect the electrical connections:
-
Motor cable (circled in Yellow) is inside the cable carrier.
- Open the cable carrier and disconnect the motor connection
-
Heaters and fans (circled in Red).
- Slide the connectors out of the printed mount and disconnect the heaters and fan connections
-
Thermocouple connectors (circled in Green).
- Disconnect the thermocouple connection
NOTE - The next step removes the head's main mounting bolts. The unit MUST be supported during this step or it will succumb to gravity.
To remove the main mounting bolts - remove (4) M4 SHCS using a 3mm Allen wrench.
- Two screws on the left side of the extruder and two screws on the right side.
- To access the ones on the right side you will need to remove the feed throat.
